1980 
Widerberg’s interests extend to primitive art and Shamanism. He practices Yoga and Subbud, a Sufi inspired form of meditation, and is well oriented in the Jewish Kabbalah tradition. He is also interested in the cosmos, theories about time and space, the possibility of life on other planets and reads science fiction books. His first lithograph on the theme of the Tarot is produced, and a series of 23 watercolours painted on the pages of books containing translated texts from alchemistic literature. 

Participates in exhibitions in Bergen, Trondheim, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Kiel and Darmstadt. 

He is the guest artist at the Harstad Music Festival of Northern Norway. 

Exhibits in Oslo at the Artists’ Association. The accompanying catalogue Frans Widerberg: Paintings includes an essay by Stein Mehren (1935 – 2017) and a poem by Harald Sverdrup (1923 – 1992).

1981 
Exhibits at Gallery Olga S in Stockholm. The accompanying catalogue includes an essay by Torsten Bergmark (1920 – 1996).

1982 
Publication of the monograph Arvid Møller & Frans Widerberg 100 Bilder (Paintings) with an essay by Stein Mehren. Published by J M Stenersen Forlag, Oslo.

1983
One-man exhibition of paintings at the Rotterdam Art Foundation, from 16 April to 8 May. The accompanying catalogue includes a foreword by Alf Bøe, Director of the Munch Museum, Oslo.

1984
Participates in the international group exhibition ROSC ’84 at the Guinness Hop Store in Dublin, from 24 August – 17 November. 
Exhibitions in Oslo and Stockholm. 

Produces a folio of lithographs 10 Dikt/Litografier to accompany Stein Mehren’s 10 handwritten poems. Published by Stenersen Forlag, Oslo.
