1990
Major international touring exhibition Frans Widerberg: Paintings 1980 – 1990 opens at the Artists’ House in Oslo, from 10 March – 11 April, supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The accompanying catalogue includes the foreword by Arne Malmedal and Liv Mørch Finborud, and an essay Decisive Encounters by Åsmund Thorkildsen. The exhibition tours to venues to Madrid, Lisbon, Berlin and Ulm. 

Publication of the first volume of Widerberg’s graphic works Frans Widerberg: Grafikk 1954 – 1990, with an essay Frans Widerberg – The Printmaker by Hans Jakob Brun is published by Labyrinth Press, Oslo. 

1991
Starts work on the stained-glass window commission for Volsdalen Church in Ålesund. 

One-man exhibition celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Gallery Brandstrup, Moss, from 5 – 26 May. The accompanying catalogue includes Sigmund Mjelve: Seven Poems in Conversation. 

One-man exhibition Paintings and Prints at Trondheim Kunstforening from 25 July to 1 September, with a catalogue introduction by Svein Thorud, Curator. 

In Germany, attends the opening of his exhibition Paintings 1980 – 1990 at Ulmer Museum, Ulm, from 19 October to 17 November. The exhibition also travels to Fondacion Colegio del Rey, Madrid and the Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.

1992    
One-man exhibition Paintings at Gallery Christian Dam in Copenhagen, from 3 – 30 September, with a catalogue introduction by Alex Steen. 

In London for the launch of his one-man exhibition at the Barbican Arts Centre, from 10 November – 13 December, as part of the Scandinavian Festival Tender is the North. Widerberg is presented to HM Queen Elizabeth and HRH Prince Philip during their tour of his exhibition at the official opening of the festival. 

Features in the BBC TV programme The Late Show covering the Festival. 

Participates in the documentary film Dimensions in Space and Time: Frans Widerberg, Painter, directed by Eric Solbakken, produced by Staten Film Sentral, Oslo. 

In Oslo, he works with Dag Hofseth on intaglio prints. 

1993 
In Ålesund, at Volsdalen Church for the installation of the commissioned stained-glass panelled, north wall of the church with depictions of Peter, the Fisherman; Birds and The Sun, with The Cross and The Resurrection in the centre, and John the Baptist and the Eagle in the final panel. Two paintings The Adoration and From Chaos to Cosmos are commissioned and funded by the Norwegian Culture Committee.

In Oslo, Widerberg works with his sculptor son, Nico, and Per Steen Hebsgaard to create a Chapel for Ulleval Hospital.

Watercolours exhibition opens at the University Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne, from 14 January – 26 February. Widerberg attends the opening of the exhibition when it tours to Brighton University Gallery, from 1 - 20 November. The accompanying catalogue includes an essay by William Varley.

The exhibition Frans Widerberg: Paintings 1986 – 93, opens at the Amos Anderson Art Museum in Helsinki, from 25 March – 9 May. The accompanying catalogue includes an essay by Knut Berg, Director of the National Gallery, Oslo.

Widerberg’s poem Bold Traveller an homage to Alan Davie, is published in the Davie monograph The Quest for the Miraculous by Michael Tucker, Professor of Poetics at Brighton University.

1994 
Works with Lu Daxiang, master printmaker at the National Academy of Art, Craft and Design in Oslo.

One-man exhibition Paintings at the Artists’ Association in Oslo, from 5 February – 6 March.
