1995
A one-man exhibition Etchings and Woodcuts 1992-95 opens at Gallery K in Oslo, from 25 March – 30 April. The accompanying catalogue includes an essay by the artist and critic Dag Hofseth.

Participates in the group exhibition Norwegian Events ’95 in Dublin: An Exhibition by Eight Norwegian Artists, at the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts Gallagher Gallery, from 31 August – 30 September. Fellow artists include Elena Engelsen, Ida Lorentzen, Odd Nerdrum, Per Ung, Jakob Weidemann and Morten Krogvold. The accompanying catalogue has a foreword by Jan Østern, Norwegian Ambassador to Dublin and an essay by Hans Jacob-Brun, Director of the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo. 

Exhibition of Watercolours and Glass, at Gallery Brandstrup, Moss, from 16 September – 8 October. 

Participates in a joint exhibition with his sons Nico, Frans, Thomas Widerberg: Sculpture, Paintings, Music at Lillehammer Kunstmuseum, from 29 September – 19 November. Catalogue interview Frans Widerberg and Italy by Svein Olav Hoff Museum Director.

Travels to Washington DC for the opening of his exhibition with Ulf Nilsen at the Alex Gallery, from 14 October to 30 November. 

Attends the opening of his exhibition Frans Widerberg: Paintings1980 – 1990 in Kuala Lumpar, by The Regent, Reidar Sveaas. 

Publication of Frans Widerberg: Bilder, En Reise, with an essay Making the World: The Art of Frans Widerberg by Michael Tucker. Published by Labyrinth Press, Oslo. 

1996
Exhibitions of Prints at Gallery Christian Dam in Copenhagen, from 8 March – 9 April, and at the Swedish Printmakers´ Association in Stockholm. 

Scandinavian Prints an exhibition and book, includes Widerberg’s graphic works in the collection of the British Museum, London.

Retrospective exhibition at the Astrup Fearnley Museum for Modern Art in Oslo, with the accompanying publication Frans Widerberg: Malerier 1956 – 1996 with essays by Hans Jacob Brun and Øystein Ustvedt. Published by Grøndahl Dreyer, Oslo. 

Features in the film Artist Portret: en skisse av Fans Widerberg, directed by Bjørn Fredheim, produced by A/S Media, Kristiansand.

1997
Attends his investiture. Awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav, in the rank of Knight First Class. 

1998 
Completes the commission for the monumental three-part decorative glass frieze Arcadia, and the Horse and Rider glass sculpture for Pier West and Terminal 2 at Copenhagen’s new Kastrup Airport. Participates in the documentary film Frans Widerberg’s Work at Copenhagen Airport, produced for Copenhagen Airport by A/S Media, Kristiansand. 

Produces a series of monumental, painted ceramic ‘Urns’ at Tommerup Bygningskeramik, Denmark.  

One-man exhibition at the Christian Dam Gallery in Oslo. 

One-man exhibition at Gallery Brandstrup, Moss. The accompanying catalogue includes an essay The Light in Frans Widerberg’s Paintings by Peter Michael Hornung, Art Editor of Politiken. 

First edition Norwegian postage stamp with the Horse and Rider image is released on the 18 June, in Oslo.

Produces watercolours for the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize diploma presented to John Hume and David Trimble, key figures behind the Northern Ireland Good Friday Agreement.

1999
Features in the documentary The Landscape of Longing: Copenhagen Airport directed by Bjørn Fredheim for Quadrat TV – A/S Media, Kristiansand. 

One-man exhibition Paintings, at Gallery K in Oslo, from 9 April to 2 May. The accompanying catalogue includes A Conversation with Frans Widerberg by Henning W Reusch. 

Attends his opening of his exhibition Glass at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, from 9 October – 5 January, during the Visions Norway Festival. Four glass figures are purchased by the University Gallery for the Permanent Collection. The accompanying catalogue includes an introduction by Mara-Helen Wood and an essay An Artist in Glass by Michael Tucker.  

Widerberg’s paintings in the Astrup Fearley Collection are included in the loan exhibition Visions of Norway at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne as part of the Visions Norway Festival.
